GIVE US OUR ROYALTIES DUE US"-DORYUMU CHIEF TELLS GOV'T

Nene Adjartey Konor II
The chief of Doryumu, a suburb of the Shai-Osudoku district in the Eastern region of Ghana, Nene Adjartey Konor II, has lamented that, he and his subjects in Doryumu have to be compensated by the government, specifically the mineral and forestry  commission for the work happening at the query sites on their land.

According to him, since the tenure of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, his village has been the source of rocks for the construction of Tema Harbour and other government projects for which they deserve to be given some royalty on that. " Even though our past traditional leaders were compensated but that is not enough due to the royalty given to the mineral and forestry commission by the private companies operating at the query sites whilst we the rightful owners do not benefit anything annually ", he added.

Nene Adjartey nonetheless, disclosed that, they need to be also compensated on the high tension mounted on their land by the Volta River Authority during President Rawlings tenure. He continued that, though their past traditional leaders permitted the government to mount the high tension on their land but they were cheated at the end with a little compensation and afterwards they do not get any recognition from the government.

He is therefore using this opportunity to appeal to the current government to hear their plea and give them the royalties they deserve.
