STARR FM’S PETER OWUSU GRABS FESPACO AWARD

Starr FM’s Peter Owusu has won the Best Student Fiction Film award at the 25th pan-African Films Festival (FESPACO).

The young film director from the University of Ghana has made history for being the first to receive FESPACO nomination for his film, ‘DOWN SIDE UP’ and for winning the award for Ghana’s premier tertiary outfit.

‘DOWN SIDE UP’ written and directed by Peter Owusu as part of his final year project in the University of Ghana in 2016, stresses the death of the future of a child if he/she is denied access to education.
Set in a school compound in Accra, the story revolves around Ato, a boy who dares to get himself educated. His passion for school and desire to join his contemporaries in the classroom landed him in nightmarish situation.
“This award means everything to me, especially because this is my first film and that it has been recognized by FESPACO and won an award,” Owusu said after receiving the award.
‘DOWN SIDE UP’ is one of two awards won by Ghanaian directors at the 25th edition of FESPACO in Ougadougou. Bismark Aryee, from NAFTI, won the Best Student Documentary Film.

MISS AFRO TOURISM & CULTURE WINNER LAMENTED OVER PRIZE

Miss Afro Tourism & Culture winner 2015 lamented over not received a prize agreed on in Tamale in the Northern region.

Irene Konlan the Miss Afro Tourism & Culture winner, a Student of Tamale Technical University is alleged that the organisers who organized the Program failed to fulfilled the promises.  Ireen lamented bitterly of the organization admitted of project but none was secured, and a car admitted didn't come, 42 flat TV also was a scam.

The organization also in Eastern region to organize Miss Afro Tourism & Culture and is appealing to the organizers to fulfill her prizes before they should continue with another organisation of any Miss Afro Tourism & Culture.

According to him, no hip-life artiste in Ghana can rub shoulders with him with regards to live band performance, adding the rapperholic cannot perform in countries he (Ayisoba) perfoms. “Sarkodie is not fit for those shows because he (Sarkodie) cannot perform to a live band, the only thing Sarkodie can do is to mime to his songs on CDs,” he told Onua FM.

King Ayisoba argued that in countries that he has performed, the organisers of the shows he performed on, would prefer engaging American rapper, Jay-Z to Sarkodie “The organizers of those shows will prefer Jay Z than bringing Sarkodie because he (Sarkodie) doesn’t have a band.” For him M.anifest and Wanlov Kubolor are the only hip-life artistes who are performing well in the industry among their contemporaries. “M.anifest and Wanlove are the only artistes who are doing well compared to the rest of the hiplife musicians we have here in Ghana.


“The Whiteman I work with always tells me he prefers to invite a highlife artiste from Ghana than inviting a hip-life artiste to the event he organized.”

Daasebre Gyamenah's Management Empty-Headed- Okraku-Mantey

Chief Executive Officer of Slip Music, Mark Okraku-Mantey has described Nana Nakaa Mutty, Communications Director of Enas Multimedia as blockheaded.

His jab comes on the back of a statement released by Enas Multimedia on Sunday which said the firm had a say in the intellectual property of highlife artiste Daasebre Gyamenah because it was managing the singer before his demise.

According to the statement, Okraku-Mantey does not have the sole right of Daasebre's ‘Kokooko’ even though he was the producer of the song. As such, the Slip Music boss' decision to take legal action against Sarkodie for not seeking permission before doing a rendition of the song was wrong.

But Okraku-Mantey responding to the statement on Hitz FM's Daybreak Hitz, Monday said Nana Nakaa Mutty has demonstrated his ignorance.

"Even if Daasebre has 40%, same as business. The one who holds higher has the say... Even if Daasebre gave them a document that they should come for his royalties from me, they still do not have the say because I own more. And so far, nobody has introduced me to any Enas Multimedia as the representative of Daasebre. When we were filing a document at COSGA years ago, Daasebre had a next of kin. So he (Nana Nakaa Mutty) doesn't matter in this case," he told host, KMJ.

"The guy is empty-headed. Don't waste your time on him," Okraku-Mantey added.

The statement from Enas Multimedia further labelled Okraku-Mantey as "hypocrite" saying, he failed to show up at the funeral of Daasebre Gyamenah but was quick to fight over intellectual property.

Reacting to that, Okraku-Mantey said he could not be at the funeral because he had lost his father.

"My dad was supposed to be buried on the same 25th of November so I was also struggling with mine. So if I did not come to the funeral and stay at my small corner, you call me a hypocrite? My right is the production; Daasebre is not my right. It has nothing to do with Daasebre, how he feels about me or how I feel about him. The young man calling himself a communicator should learn better," he noted.
